Diwali The Festival of Lights

India is the land of spirituality and spiritual festivals. Festivities do not just give people a chance to have a good time but also a chance to meet and greet each other and connect as everybody is busy with their lives. Indians rejoice in each festival with absolute interest. Festive breaks are great to rejuvenate yourself with the love of your dear ones.

Diwali is one of the most awaited festivals in India and many other countries across the world. This year Diwali will be celebrated on 24th October. The religious festival originated in India. Diwali is mostly known as a Hindu festival but Sikhs and Jains also celebrate it with great enthusiasm.

The biggest and most dazzling festival of the year. During Diwali people decorate their houses with festive lights, making rangolis, liting diyas, and lights. At the night, one can see colorful lights and diyas everywhere. The streets and buildings are floodlit by different lights. These lights represent the spiritual success of good over the wicked.

The festival marks the carnival of various religious events around the world. Just before Diwali, people celebrate Navratri, Dashahra, karwa Chauth, and then Dhanteras, and after Diwali Govardhan pooja and Bhai dooj. The entire country is colored in the colors of festivities during this period.

Diwali Preparations:

People clean their houses and offices, declutter their spaces, and decorate them to welcome the goddess Lakshmi. People do a lot of shopping, for new clothes, décor items, new stuff for houses, gifts for family and friends, and employees.

Some people make sweets at home some get them from the shops as Indian celebrations are incomplete without sweets. Diwali night features an exchange of gifts, fireworks, delicious foods, and beautiful, colorful lights. People make sure to lighten up each corner of their houses and streets during the festivity.

Celebrating Devi Lakshmi

The celebration begins with Ganesha and Lakshmi pooja. Any pooja in Hinduism commences with Ganesha pooja. So, on Diwali also people do Ganesha Lakshmi pooja and pray to them for good health and wealth. Many people bring Lakshmi Ganesha ideals to their homes during Diwali as it is known to bring good fortune to lives. People also gift Ganesh and Lakshmi ideals to their loved ones.

History of Diwali

Diwali is celebrated in remembrance of the return of Lord Ram from Srilanka. Shriram came to Ayodhya with Laxman and Mata Sita on this day. When Shriram went for Vanvasa, Ravan kidnapped Mata Sita so Shriram, Laxman, Hanuman, and their soldiers defeated Ravan and brought Mata Sita back to Ayodhya. That is why it is also said the victory of good over evil. When they arrived in Ayodhya people celebrated their homecoming by liting diyas all around. That is why even now people lit diyas.
